Student Exchange with Oman

Muscat · Oman · 2018

From October 15th to 26th, 2018, families from Hamburg welcomed ten students and two companions from Oman. The focus of the youth encounter was getting to know each other through making music together. The Omani students practiced a number of pieces of music together with their new German friends. In addition to joint music rehearsals, the program also included visits to sights in northern Germany and getting to know German family and school life.

For example, the Omanis and their exchange partners visited the port of Hamburg, the St. Jacobi Church, the Willkomm-Höft ship welcoming facility and Schwerin, including Schwerin Castle and the old town.

After almost two weeks of rehearsals together, the Omani and German youth were able to present the results - a diverse mix of German and Arabic music pieces - to an enthusiastic audience of invited guests in a final concert at the Julius Leber School.

The youth encounter was organized by the Society for German-Arab Encounters e.V. (GDAB) in cooperation with the Julius Leber School in Hamburg and the Ministry of Education of the Sultanate of Oman.

What participants say

It was a nice experience to be here in Germany. We learned a lot of things from this trip and we will take it with us to Oman for sure. We hope that other groups will come after we leave so they can learn what we learned.

It was a really great trip because we exchange our language, culture and music. The Germans were so kind and lovely with us. We were really happy because we participated in the musical concert with German students.
